{"id":302,"date":"2025-01-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","slug":"new-years-realisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ajulea.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/12\/new-years-realisation\/","title":{"rendered":"New Year&#8217;s Realisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>I drove the hard truth home, <br \/>\nshiny black metal at midnight. <br \/>\nGod, I don&#8217;t drive well \u2014 <br \/>\ncrashed into the white picket gate,<br \/>\ninto your yellow rosebed,<br \/>\nwheels frozen in the mud,<br \/>\nstuck in reverse.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve been strangers for a year now<br \/>\nsince you moved back home,<br \/>\nchoking on the rust eating <br \/>\naway at our hellos \u2014 <br \/>\nthorn-prick red, like a nightingale&#8217;s<br \/>\nblood on the rose.<\/p>\n<p>Our conversations paled,<br \/>\nlike starving homeless shadows,<br \/>\nthinning till their skeletal frames<br \/>\npeeked at us from behind doors,<br \/>\nhaunting and hiding <br \/>\nwhile the seasons changed.<\/p>\n<p>The week before your move,<br \/>\nwe were so excited we glowed,<br \/>\nsaid we&#8217;d make angels in the snow<br \/>\nto thaw a winter whiter<br \/>\nthan any we had seen before.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the dirge of daily life<br \/>\nand drab chores got in the way,<br \/>\ncalendars got too busy,<br \/>\nor maybe we just changed.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve packed my bags, <br \/>\nthe purple and the blue,<br \/>\na one-way ticket in my pocket<br \/>\nknows I leave at noon.<br \/>\nWhen I slip out through the back door,<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll try and make no sound,<br \/>\nperhaps we can talk again<br \/>\nwhen I am not around.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I drove the hard truth home,   shiny black metal at midnight.
