{"id":222,"date":"2020-03-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-28T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","slug":"this-is-not-poetry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ajulea.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/28\/this-is-not-poetry\/","title":{"rendered":"This is not poetry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>This is not poetry.<br \/>\nIt is a confession.<br \/>\nWe were out of bread, milk, <br \/>\neggs and vegetables. <br \/>\nThe streets were surreal;<br \/>\nit was a Van Gogh night. <br \/>\nThe silence was broken<br \/>\nby hungry howling dogs<br \/>\ntwo or three lanes away.<br \/>\nMy housemate and I walked<br \/>\nas rusty shop shutters<br \/>\nstared at us in disgust<br \/>\nlike formalin dipped frogs<br \/>\nin Biology labs. <br \/>\nWe found a lone grocer<br \/>\nfifteen minutes later<br \/>\nwith some eggs and bread left. <br \/>\nBeggars can&#8217;t be choosers. <br \/>\nTense and silent prayers<br \/>\nfrom agnostic lips, fell. <br \/>\nBreaking the cellophane <br \/>\nof silence, the girl said-<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve never felt so safe<br \/>\noutside at night before. <\/p>\n<p>I must admit, we laughed. <\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is not poetry.
