Farewell Avenue

Imagine, if the world were flat,
Goodbyes would be so much harder to say
With you going off in one direction
And with us going the other way.
Imagine, the passing of many moons,
You would walk ahead, all the world your stage,
I would be walking too, but knowing my luck,
I could wobble and trip over the edge.
While falling off, I would be thinking,
I guess that was it, our final goodbye,
I would be a small blob floating in space,
Who couldn’t come back even to say hi.
I would surely remember you as one
Who was strong, fun, smart, unafraid to be
Yourself; I would remember you as one
Who taught me it was important to be me.
“Thanks a lot for that”, I’m sure I would say,
Probably because I’d be so tired
Of floating around in outer space, so,
I’d be thinking of earthlings I admired.
But, you will notice that the earth is round,
So if you start walking, and we do too,
In opposite roadways, we’ll meet again.
So let’s not walk down Farewell Avenue.
