Cobblestones

After months, it rained today,
Clouds-pensive shades of grey,
Covered the sky on this dark day,
While my thoughts went astray.

Settled on you, how’ve you been?
We hardly talk, inbetween,
Worldly aim and squandered dream,
I wonder though, how’ve you been?

Remember the roads you knew so well?
How we’d plan walks around a rainy spell,
Running when the first raindrop fell?
Muddy footprints for the show and tell.

Then one day, you walked ahead,
With fanciful dreams in your head.
You may be back, you had said,
It was the last walk, instead.

Cobblestones, an empty path,
Left alone in the aftermath,
To bear the pain and tame the wrath,
Cobblestones, an empty path.
